Viewing Colloquia

Summary listings: Summary listings of colloquia display just the title, speaker(s), time, and sponsoring department(s). See, for example, http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?sem=spring2003.

Detailed view: Each colloquium in a summary listing links to a detailed view of that colloquiu. The detailed view also displays the speaker(s)' affiliation and contact information, the location, an abstract, and contact information for sponsoring department(s)' colloquium coordinator(s). See, for example, http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?id=26.

Poster format: The detailed view includes a link to display the information in a poster, suitable for advertising the colloquium. See, for example, http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?id=26&display=poster.

View by department: Summary listings can be restricted to a particular department by specifying the department in the URL, for example, http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?dept=geos. Each department has a department code. dept=nsm lists colloquia for all departments in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. dept=sigmaxi lists all colloquia for departments who have members in Sigma Xi.

Embedding summary listings: Summary listings of colloquia can be embedded into HTML documents using a Server Side Include and adding display=embedded to the URL, for example, http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?dept=chem&daysahead=7&display=embedded.

Date Range Options: There are various ways to specify the range of dates for summary listings.

1. Specify the beginning and ending date, for example, http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?begindate=09.12.2003&enddate=12.31.2003.

2. From today's date to a specified number of days into the future, such as http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?daysahead=7.

3. Specify the semester, for example, http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?sem=spring2003. sem=spring2003 displays colloquia between Jan 1 and May 15 of the specified year, sem=summer2003 displays colloquia between May 16 and Aug 20 of the specified year, and sem=fall2003 displays colloquia between Aug 21 and Dec 31 of the specified year. sem=this displays colloquia for the current semester.

4. If no begin date is specified, today's date is assumed. If no end date is specified, then the end date is set to the begin date plus 4 months.

Search form: Visitors can select the date range options and department selection options through the search form at http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=SELECT. When visitors are viewing colloquia, they can click on the "View Other Colloquia" link to access the search form.

Email Notification

Subscribing: Visitors can subscribe to an email notification service. A link to the subscription form is listed at the bottom of every page. Subscribers receive an email message each thursday morning, listing the colloquia for the next week with links to details about each colloquium. If there are no colloquia for the next week, no message is sent.

Unsubscribing: Subscribers can visit the subscription form to unsubscribe from the notification service. The email address and password are required to unsubscribe. If a subscriber forgets his or her password, contact the overall administrator for the colloquium system (see http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=LISTDEPT for contact information).

IUP Bulletins: An email message is sent each thursday morning to IUP Bulletins at my-news@iup.edu, listing colloquia for the week after next.

Colloquia Updates

Adding a colloquium: Departments can add new colloquia to the system at http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=ADDTALK. If you haven't already entered the department's password, you will be prompted for it. Departments can add colloquia that are sponsored by their own department or jointly sponsored with other departments. The overall colloquia system administrator can add colloquia sponsored by any department. Colloquia abstracts can be in plain text or HTML format. In plain text format, email addresses and URLs enclosed in double square brackets will be displayed as hyperlinks. For example, [[hedonley@iup.edu]] and [[http://www.nsf.gov]]. If the abstract requires any additional formatting, then it must be entered in HTML format.

Modifying a colloquium: Departments can modify information about colloquia that are already in the system at http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=LIST. If you haven't already entered the department's password, you will be prompted for it. Departments can modify colloquia that are sponsored by their own department or jointly sponsored with other departments. The overall colloquia system administrator can modify colloquia sponsored by any department.

Deleting colloquia: Departments can delete colloquia that are already in the system at http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=LIST. If you haven't already entered the department's password, you will be prompted for it. Departments can modify colloquia that are sponsored by their own department or jointly sponsored with other departments. The overall colloquia system administrator can delete colloquia sponsored by any department. There is no need to delete colloquia because they have already occurred. These can be permanently stored in the system.

Department Information Management

Department contact information: Each department can specify a contact person for questions about that department's colloquia. This person's contact information is listed below the detailed view of each colloquium sponsored by that department. See http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=MODIFYDEPT. The overall colloquium system administrator can change any department's contact information.

Password change: Each department can change the department's password. See http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=CHANGEPASSWORD.

Department URL: Each department can specify the URL for the department's main page. See http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=MODIFYDEPT. The overall colloquium system administrator can change any department's URL.

Adding departments: The overall administrator can add departments. See http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=ADDDEPT.

Department template: Each department can upload a template at http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?ACTION=MODIFYDEPT for displaying the department's colloquia. Department templates let you give your own look and feel to your colloquia page. When you go to http://www.math.iup.edu/cgi-bin/colloquia/colloquia.pl?dept=yourdept it will display your scheme if you uploaded one. To create a template, design a Web page just like you normally would but in the title tag insert TITLEHERE and the colloquia program will replace that with the appropriate title for the user's current page. Then put CONTENTHERE in the webpage where you would want the colloquia information inserted. Here is a short example:
