Duquesne

Andrew Carnegie aquired the Duquesne Steel Works in 1890 by buying out a competitor. The competitor's state of the art Duquesne Works contained steel furnaces and rolling mills that Carnegie saw as a threat to his market postion. In 1889 Dorthy 6 was built, Dorthy six was the largest blast furnace in the Mononghela valley. The Duqesne Steel Works, along with the Edger Thomas Works, the Homestead Works, and the Carrie and Lucy furnaces would form the core of Carnegies vast steel empire.
