Positions in Mathematics Education

Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for two tenure-track positions in secondary mathematics education to begin in the fall of 2004.  Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant Professor level with the possibility of Associate Professor level for an individual with exceptional qualifications. 

 

The Mathematics Department places a high priority upon teaching excellence and expects faculty to be professionally active.

 

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics education and mathematics content courses in secondary mathematics education.  Duties include advising students; teaching courses in mathematics pedagogy and mathematics content; supervising field experiences; continuing scholarly growth; and participating in university, college, and department service.  The normal teaching load is twelve semester credit hours.

 

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D.  anticipated by September 2004 in mathematics education or an area related to mathematics education with significant coursework in mathematics and mathematics education.  Evidence of effective teaching experience in mathematics at the secondary level.  Evidence of potential for successful scholarly activity in mathematics education.  Academic preparation and evidence of ability to effectively teach mathematics content and pedagogy courses.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with in-service presentations and/or curriculum development.  Active participation in recognized professional organizations.

 

To become a finalist, a candidate must communicate effectively and perform well during the interviews, including a teaching demonstration and/or professional presentation.  All applicants must be work eligible.
