Adelante y Mas is a two week College experience for high school students from Latino(a) origin. The project is sponsored by a grant from the Office of Equity of the State System of Higher Education (SSHE) and the Colleges of Education, Natural Science & Mathematics, and Humanities at IUP.
The program was initiated six years ago as Project Adelante by Dr. Arturo Iriarte, who was the Associate Dean of the College of Education. It has been directed since Iriarte's departure by Francisco Alarcon of the Department of Mathematics.
A brief summary of this years program follows.
The Summer of 1994 will bring the third and final visit for the Latino students from Bethlehem, Allentown and Reading to the IUP campus. Both the curricular and the extracurricular activities planned for the third Summer are designed to continue and furth er enhance the achievements of the preceding two visits and are modeled after them. Additionally students will participate in two workshops. The first one designed to facilitate a successful transition from High School to College and as a candid and hones t introduction to what they can expect as College Students. The faculty members involved in the Adelante project in 1993 will be involved in the third year. The faculty participants are:
