Wednesday, March 31 ~ Internet resources for teaching and learning mathematics Open a Microsoft Word document to keep track of the information you record in tonight's class.
- Include your name and today's date in the document.
- List different types of Internet resources that are available to teachers of mathematics.
- Use Google (www.google.com) to find at least one Web site that contains a mathematics lesson plan for the grade level you teach or intend to teach. Save the location (URL) of the lesson plan site and the format of the lesson plan file.
- Visit the The Math Forum Web site at mathforum.org.
Locate the link to "Ask Dr. Math." Find a question and answer about a mathematical topic at the grade level you teach or intend to teach. Include the location of the question and answer, and copy and paste the text of the question and answer into your Word document.
- Visit the NCTM Web site at http://www.nctm.org/.
- How much would it cost for you to become a member of NCTM?
- Where will the upcoming annual NCTM meeting be held? Identify at least one session in the program of the upcoming annual NCTM meeting that you would be interested in attending. Record the session number, session title, and the presenter's name(s).
- Link to the NCTM Illuminations Web site: illuminations.nctm.org.
- Record the combination of Grade level and i-Math investigation you have been assigned. Explore the i-Math investigation.
- Explain how to use the i-Math investigation to your partner. Reverse roles to have your partner explain her or his i-Math investigation to you.
- Link to the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives Web site: matti.usu.edu/nlvm/nav/vlibrary.html.
- Record the grid combination of Grade level by Mathematics topic you have been assigned. Explore one of the virtual manipulatives that is contained in the list that accompanies your grid combination.
- Explain how to use the virtual manipulative and what mathematical concepts the manipulative teaches or reinforces to your partner. Reverse roles to have your partner explain her or his virtual manipulative to you.
- Save your Word document, and e-mail a copy of it as an attachment to yourself and to the instructor (tshort@iup.edu).

- Complete rows of the Zoombinis "Activity Matrix" for the "Mudball Wall" demo and the "Island Odyssey" demo.
- Write a lesson plan in the style of those provided on the Zoombinis Web site for either the "Mudball Wall" demo or the "Island Odyssey" demo.
- Use Tinkerplots to explore the Indiana County PSSA scores data for grades 5, 8, and 11. Create graphs to search for associations in school district, grade level, reading, and mathematics.
Use your graphs to prepare a letter to Dr. Yong Colen and his family. Dr. Colen will be joining the IUP Mathematics Department faculty this coming Fall. As he prepares to move to Indiana, use your graphs to illustrate comparisons in schools and school districts in Indiana County.

- Write a review of the Tinkerplots software. Address your review to the Statistics Education Research Group at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Base your comments on our class discussions on what a good review should contain.
- Complete a review of the Geometer's Sketchpad software. You will have started work on this review in class on April 7. Include all of the elements of a software review that we discussed in class and that are listed on handouts from class.
