Homework Assignments

  1. Due Wednesday, February 18

    Required work

    1. Make up at least one question and a mathematical formula that lead to the answer to a different "Number Name."

    2. Make up your own "Calculator Tic-Tac-Toe" equations for math operations that are appropriate for the grade level you teach or intend to teach. Provide a blank version and an answer sheet version.

    3. Complete your own "Mental Computation" handout for math operations that are appropriate for the grade level you teach or intend to teach. Provide a blank version and an answer sheet version.

    4. Complete your own "Maze Playing Board" handout for math operations that are appropriate for the grade level you teach or intend to teach. Provide a blank version and an answer sheet version.

    5. Ask at least five people to complete your version of the "Maze Playing Board" handout. Record the values they achieve at the end of the "maze." Did any of the players achieve the largest value? Does the path to the hardest value seem to be too hard or too easy to find?

    Optional work

    • Find more words that you can spell on an LCD calculator with math "Number Names."

    • Determine the best strategy for playing one of the the NIM games. If you find the best strategy instead of figuring it out yourself, please give a reference.

    • Revise, expand, improve, vary, or customize any of the calculator games we explore in class.

    • Add any other calculator games or activities that you can find or know about to the "Calculator Activity Evaluation Form."
