Homework Assignments

  1. Due Monday, September 11

    Required work

    • Read Sections 3.1 through 3.3
    • Repeat Exercise 2.4 on page 59 using Type of Transmission (x11) as a predictor variable
    • Exercise 2.26 on page 66 (part a)

    Optional work

    • Exercise 2.26 on page 66 (parts b & c)
    • Exercises 2.8 through 2.25 on pages 60 through 66

  2. Due Wednesday, September 13

    Required work

    • Read Sections 3.4 through 3.9
    • Find, share, or enter the National Football League data in Appendix Table B.1. Demonstrate that you have read the data into a statistical software package by reporting descriptive statistics for each of the variables.

    Optional work

    • Exercise 3.2 on page 123
    • Find, share, or enter other datasets from the Appendices in the textbook, and report descriptive statistics for the variables in the datasets.

  3. Due Monday, September 18

    Required work

    • Read Chapter 8 on Indicator Variables
    • Exercises 3.1, 3.3, and 3.4 on pages 122 and 123

    Optional work

    • Exercises 3.5 and 3.6 on pages 123 and 124
    • Exercises 3.7 through 3.14 on pages 124 through 126

  4. Due Wednesday, September 20

    Required work

    • Review Chapter 3
    • Demonstrate that you have read in or typed in the Chapped Lips expert rater dataset by providing descriptive statistics for each of the variables in the dataset.

    Optional work

    • Demonstrate that you have read in or typed in the Chapped Lips water loss rate dataset by providing descriptive statistics for each of the variables in the dataset.

  5. Due Monday, September 25

    Required work

    • Read Sections 4.1 and 4.2 on Residual Analysis
    • Complete an analysis of variance for the Chapped Lips expert rater dataset.
